Tasting Notes: Dark red with hints of garnet, this wine has aromas of wild sage, black cherry and black berry, layered with dried tobacco leaf.
On the palate: Dried sage, anise and bright dark red fruit notes of black cherry and dried cranberry, combine with soft tobacco, cocoa and wood notes. Background earthiness and supple tannins contribute to the lengthy finish. This wine is drinking well now, but can age for another 10 years.
Serving: Rich, roasted meats like lamb, venison, and grilled steak would pair very well with this wine. Pairings with root vegetable vegetarian dishes are excellent vegetarian options. With balanced acid, tannins and fruit, this wine is made to pair with food.
"91 POINTS" John Schreiner (August 18th 2016) / "90 POINTS" John Schreiner (May 2015) "This is wine with intense flavours of cassis, vanilla and black cherry, with flavours of sage, black currant and black cherry, accentuated with the oak notes from having spent a year in barrel. There is a touch of cocoa on the finish. "
"90 POINTS" Tony Aspler (July 2015) "Deep purple colour; blueberry and dark chocolate nose with an oak note; full-bodied, dry, creamy mouth feel; blueberry flavour with a note of violets and a lively spine of acidity. "
"90 POINTS" WineScores.ca (November 2016) "Seductive and plush aromas of plum compote and black raspberry, vanilla, sarsaparilla lead to a similarly decadent palate with some dried cherries, cocoa and spice. Nice overall style and balance -- very easy to drink."
