Bench 1775 - 2016 Whie Merlot - VQA - Gold Medal! - Our long-awaited new wine, 2016 White Merlot, is finally officially released in 2017!
GOLD Medal Winner — 2017 Cascadian Wine Competition
TASTING NOTES— An unusual expression of Okanagan Merlot – the grapes for this wine was harvested and pressed whole cluster to minimize extraction of colour and tannins from the skin. A unique blend of Merlot with no skin contact and Pinot Gris with skin contact, resulting in a delicate peach colour. The Pinot Gris’ skin contact brings sharpness and structure, met with the delicious fruit of the Merlot.
Grape Varieties: 85% Merlot, 15% Pinot Gris
The nose is fragrant with fresh cut sage, green thyme and Okanagan cherry.
On the palate, juicy cherry, fresh raspberries, and ripe blueberries are balanced with bright acidity for a wine that shouts out for spring patios. A note of Pinot Gris rounds out the fruitiness of this wine, making it ideal to pair with cheeses, salads and barbecues.
